African designers to meet at MTCWFW

This year’s MTCWFW is a few sleeps with more exciting events to take place within the week and promises to unite Africa in fashion.

The MTCWFW kicks off with a welcoming party hosted by Simply You Magazine on 1 November, followed by the Fashion Pitch Night on 2 November, Fashion Pink Ball on 4 November, a fashion masterclass with Glamour editor-in-chief Nontando Mposo on 6 November, as well as the runway events.

This year’s event features a fantastic mix of established and emerging designers, who will showcase their latest collections on the runway on 5 and 6 November, at Maerua Mall parking lot 3.

A total of 49 designers will be bringing their unique design signature to the main runway, including Zuriel by Luis Munana and Dare and Made by Ngaa.

Organiser Kalistu Mukoroli says this year it’s all about designers bringing timeless styles and beautiful glam productions to the runway.

“It is all about creativity beyond the ramp which speaks to digital influence,” he says.

The event will showcase designers across the African continent, alongside home grown Namibian designers comprising of emerging, student and established designers.

Award-winning designer Zamakhosi Mathe, the creative behind the women’s wear brand Zarth, says she is hoping to have her collection received well by the invited audience, and is looking forward to all the glamour that’s associated with event. The Durban based designer says her collection is about fun combinations of textures as well as a little drama for women who aren’t shy about commanding attention.

“I make bespoke wear for women with a refined taste. What to expect is a combination of vibrant colours to welcome the summer season and the lightness of airy fabrics like soft tulle and chiffon,” Mathe says.
