The fashion industry is a global industry and one of the emerging industries in Africa. The industry has made an outstanding performance in recent years and has the potential to mark internationally. Among those who recently joined the industry is Aune Alexander who has her own clothing line, A.Alexander which comprises ready to wear pieces and other different collections.

Alexander, who grew up in Ongwediva, says she has been working on the clothing line since August 2020. “I chose ready to wear pieces and I tried to launch different collections after a short while with different pieces (designs) just to showcase what I’m able to do, but that does not mean I do not or cannot accommodate the 6th person should I only happen to make 5 dresses and they find the 5 dresses sold out, because I also work with orders,” she said.
Her collection is predominantly unisex and the fun fact is that the clothes can be worn throughout the year. Alexander said working on the collection was a natural process for her as she is passionate about fashion even though she did not study fashion design. Growing up she loved everything craft related and she was good at those back in school.

“My creative process all starts in my head, before I even put in the work, I’d already have everything pictured out in my mind but with fashion design, I then put my ideas on paper and make simple sketches when necessary,” she said.
She always designs most of the clothes she wears. The final year student at the University of Namibia (UNAM) is convinced that she finds her inspiration from home. “I’ve seen my family work from nothing to something and that alone motivates me to build something of my own too,” Alexander concluded.
