Renowned Namibian music songwriter and composer Axali Doëseb credited for writing the national anthem wants to be remembered for his work long after he is gone. “It is my wish to see a Namibian music orchestra that can perform in the National Theater for all,” he said.
Music has been and is a thing of passion for NAMA lifetime achievement award-winning Doëseb. It is more than just making music but it is about making great music that is long-lasting.
“Music is not just music, it is an art that needs effort and time to perfect and I want young people to grasp this so Namibian music goes further,” he said.
Although he rates among the country’s best the sad reality is Doëseb is a name that is fading among those born in the 2000s.
What is even sadder is that while Namibian young folk know much about music legends elsewhere in the world they are forgetting their own.
“When I am long gone I want to be remembered for how I earned everything in my career how I poured my heart out and how in a way I played part in shaping the Namibia music industry, ” he said.
The veteran musician who also served as a conductor said he has given his all in society.
Doëseb said making it in music is hard but not impossible and youngsters wanting to make it in music should give it their all.
