Namibian DJ’s serving online content that has been missing in the industry.

Namibian DJs have taken centre stage by utilising the internet to achieve great things for the music industry. Facilia Mutonga known as Dj Kiki hosted her first-ever female-led live lockdown house party #DJKikiAndFriends on Friday not only to show off their talent on the decks but for girl power. The event saw the much-adorned Afrosberries and the Ell’s hit the stage and carried the night away.
Despite glitches, the show went and over 600 views on social media, trended on Twitter and Instagram alike on the night. The excited artist revealed that it was never her plan for a lockdown live concert but all her friends’ insisted she hosts the event. One of the aims of the event to inspire female DJ’s as well as to change the status quo on their stance in the male-dominated industry.
“The industry is not exclusive, so why not use the platform to show that we are more than just skirts and makeup, that we too have the art to create if given the platform,” she said.
The DJ says the aim is to create a platform for local collaborations amongst creatives to create something bigger than them. Although it is a lockdown event, Dj Kiki and the production team hinted on a continuation of the platform beyond it. The DJ says the second edition will be bigger, better and greater.
“#DjKikiandFriends 1st Edition will set the standard for the rest of the path & hopefully bigger sponsorship from cooperates,” she said.
