Namibia’s multiple awards winning duo of Liz Ehlers and Elemotho will feature in the inaugural, The Sounds of Africa series concert today.
The pan African concert will also include Zimbabwe’s, Mokoomba, and Yugen Blakrok with proceeds going to promote economic and social growth in Africa through cultural entrepreneurship. The concert is presented by CulturalConnections Africa (CCA) in collaboration with Colors Ostrava and WOMAD UK.
“It’s an honour to continue my work on international, regional, and national musical platforms since 2006,” said Elemotho.
He also said, “I have had the pleasure of performing with the likes of Femi Kuti, Chronnix, late Johnny Clegg and Mtukudzi, UB40, Zahara, AKA, Salif Keita, Youssour D’Or, and many more.”
The once awarded NAMA Lifetime Achiever Awardee has played in more than 30 African countries and at many European music festivals for more than 15 years.
“Sounds from Africa were developed as a direct response to COVID-19 to help foster contact and cultural understanding in a time of isolation. Gifts explicitly benefit the featured artists who have been financially affected by the current crisis. A part of the proceeds goes to CCA ‘s cultural production companies on the African continent. Elemotho added, “We are One’ movement, for Africans with the support of big stars like Naomi Campbell or Chris Martin (from cold play) to celebrate Africa Day 2020 with live-stream music. So, I can’t really complain and feel privileged.”
Ehlers also said, “I am very excited to open this door to the rest of the world with Elemotho as the first Namibia on this platform. ”
