Award-winning songstress Chikune yesterday announced that she is now officially a doctor! In an emotional and heartfelt post to her social media, the singer said that the journey was long, full of obstacles but she overcame it all.
“Today I looked back at my life thus far, and I noticed how much of a double life I have led during my studies. From my first Broadway musical when I was a 1st year Med student, all just to make some pocket money to try and support myself, to having the greatest fight between what my heart wanted and what I had to do to for my family, but I was determined to do both and I can sleep knowing that I have achieved a lot by just believing in God’s path for me,” she wrote.
Chikune says that she was told over and over again by her manager and her parents that she had to choose between either making music or concentrate on her studies.
“ I proved them wrong because He always made sure to bless me with an achievement that validated my dreams. For those of you who didn’t know this, this is why I couldn’t be as consistent as I wanted with my music.
I was keeping a promise I made to my family, who always valued education, not just to have a qualification for a job but to open your eyes to possibilities you wouldn’t have seen with a closed mind,” she wrote.
She thanked her fans and everybody who had been supportive in her journey and noted that she is only getting started.
