Childhood lessons and memories are what should carry us through this Covid-19 crisis.
This is the message of Sade who collaborated with Lize Ehlers for the song “Jou ma se maniere” which addresses oversharing and opening up about feelings.
The Afrikaans amapiano is a vibe of a song by two of Namibia’s most vibrant voices, Lize Ehlers and Sade. RMB Song Night Founder and Director Lize Ehlers teamed up with one of RMB Song Night’s premier voices Sade to celebrate 10 years of nurturing the Namibian sound.
As mothers and wives, Lize & Sade explore their womanhood, their strengths and their joy.
“We used to play this clapping game: “As jy jou ma se maniere kon hê, ah ja hoe oe, ah ja hoe oe!” We sampled that for the chorus. We used this in the context of the song to speak directly to Covid-19 and say if you had manners like your mother you would leave people alone by now, stop this devastation. We also used the song to address issues of oversharing, talking about the challenges and joy of motherhood and being wives,” said legendary Lize Ehlers, speaking on the song that is supported by dancer Sheyann Shine Ui-nunes throughout the video.

According to Sade, working on this song was fun and effortless. She also loved working with singing star Lize Ehlers.
“My experience. It was effortless and fun because it was real and authentic to what we stand for. I felt comfortable with Lize from the get-go because we have history, beautiful history! The song came not as an inspiration but as a fact, a truth for not only us but so many women out there. We need to find joy within ourselves, our loved ones and we need to take the time out for self-care! Most fun I had in the last 10 years of my life,” said Sade.
The song is currently on its way to getting more views, siting on over 2000. It talks directly to the Covid-19 virus saying: “If you had your mother’s manners you would stop what you are doing right now.”
