Khadijah’s ‘Lekker’ goes TikTok viral

By Emilie Shimbali

A local actress, musician and DJ, Khadijah garnered attention in Namibia, and overseas when her latest single titled “Lekker”  reaches over 60 thousand plays and more than 100 sound uses on TikTok.

Kadijah says the surprise of the song came on its first post on TiktTok and she was very shocked.  “Lekker started off as being fun and not serious but as I was making the song I started realizing how big it can become. I posted a snippet of me singing along to it before the song was even done. Within 24 hours it had 24k views on TikTok with people practically begging me to release the song. That is when I realized the power and representation that came with the song. At that point, it was bigger than me.”

This song was produced by Nasho, one of the award-winning artists and producers from the House of Guru gang. “Lekker” is a mixture of Amapiano and Trap instrumentals with witty Afrikaans rap which transitions into Trap rap. “I had two of my best friends in studio with me while I was making this song and they brought a very special energy to the making of the song and it will carry the spirit of the song in my heart,” she recalls.

Kadijah’s song turns out to be popularly played in South Africa and its official audio on YouTube is doing very well. She says that Lekker has introduced her to a new version of herself connected to her roots and culture.

“ I look forward to continuing in that direction with my music and my acting. The artwork for “Lekker”  which was shot by Keith Vries, carries a deep presentation and has brought a lot of positive response,”  she said.

She is being a DJ for six years now and making a career within the entertainment industry has always been her passion. Besides that, Khadijah is a critically acclaimed actress for her role in #TheLandOfTheBraveFilm. She is also the singer of the most popular songs “Hello” and “Find me”.
