Lady Dyna on being creative with Gospel

By Jeoffrey Mukubi

One of the most consistent and beloved Gospel sensations, Lady Dyna has come out of the woodworks to bless her fans with a brand new single titled ‘Unamandla’.
The song has distinct hard-hitting 808’s and African drum beats, which are associated with the popular South African house genre that does not often have many gospel influences. Lady Dyna however says that gospel music is good news and can be elated through any style of music.

“An artist regardless of the genre should be able to be creative enough to catch up with the times and seasons in which we find ourselves,” she said.

According to Lady Dyna the song means ‘You are powerful’, which she says exalts God and describes him as being powerful, great, king and wonderful. “It says, because we are in him, we are not afraid because he guides and protects us. He is our saviour and our redeemer. He is the way, the truth and the life,” she said.

Lady Dyna added that the song is relevant today because she feels that it reminds people that it is okay to praise God even in the midst of pain and suffering. “When we are in him, we are under the shadow of his wings and we are protected,” she said.

The seasoned globe-trotter and powerful vocalist says that winning the Maranatha Global awards for Best Thanks Giving Song and getting the first runner up for Best Collaboration Song as well as being nominated for the 24th annual Texas Gospel Music Excellence which is set to take place next year are amongst some of her favourite highlights of 2021.

“But being with my family every opportunity I get is the most important thing for me this year,” she said.

Lady Dyna credits her fans for always supporting her and promises to have an even bigger year in 2022. “I’m so excited about 2022 as I will be releasing my fourth studio album under D-Naff Entertainment,” she said.
