The gossip aunties, the depression, suicidal thoughts and the societal pressure- Maranatha airs it all in latest single.
Pastor’s kids many a times get a bad rep. They’re commonly stereotyped as troublesome people who choose lifestyles not expected by their parents and the community.
Renowned gospel singer Maranatha Goro in her latest single titled Pastors Daughter speaks out against societal expectations saying that she is done trying to fit into molds and is ready to be who she is, proudly.
The single that was released on the singer’s birthday speaks of her journey within the church, the depression that comes with being a pastor’s daughter and suicidal thoughts. The video is yet to be released.
“ I have spoken to a few of the pastor’s children and we share the same sentiments. It’s even worse for me given that I am in the spotlight. People expect you to be holy and perfect but at the end of the day we are only human, she stated.
In her song produced by DJ Kboz, Maranatha also touches on how church aunties who are supposed to be a helping hand in many instances tend to love gossiping instead of being leaders.
“ I really wanted to tell it as it is, raw, real and authentic. They are radio 99 because instead of being our solace, they turn our cries into gossip sessions. I have experienced them myself and I just want to be Marantha. I am done trying to please people,” she said.
Asked if she will turn away from her faith and the church, Maranatha says she is not turning away.
“ A lot of pastors’ daughters have left the church as their grievances have not been heard but I am not turning away. I am here to let people know that we are still human. It’s all about how we pick ourselves up and keep soaring,” she concluded.
