Just like you, your hit makers, dancers and actors too have emotions that they deal with on a daily basis.
Depression. A term not so fully understood by many but experienced by a lot. Celebrities often come across as perfect human beings without a care in the world. To many, they look great, travel the world and seem to have an endless supply of material goods, leisure, and money.
But we all know money can’t buy happiness and despite their success, celebrities are proof that depression and anxiety can affect anyone regardless of their social standing or gender. Unwrap.online recently wrote an article on Lioness explaining on her twitter how creatives go through the most just to do better regarding the art they are putting out. She ended her tweet by saying “remember to set your own goals and aspirations so that when you excel, the feeling is rewarding.”
Recently on twitter musician Slickartie also took to the ” O jewa ke jeng” tweet by Keabetswe that he’s going through depression and he does not want to tweet about it because “your fans will judge you”.
From a psychiatry perspective, Dr. Jan Chabalala said it was important to not pathologize the industry cc to Showbiz
“Depression affects anybody at any time and people in the industry are just as human as the rest of us. They are subjected to the same pressures, the same demands, the same frustrations. The only difference is that they are in the limelight and their actions tend to be pronounced for everybody to see,” said Chabalala.
Unwrap.online spoke to a few Namibian personalities regarding depression in their specific work field and as a person in general and this is what they had to say:

Depression It’s serious. Every day I see people going through it and it’s really sad”.

Most celebrities experience enormous amounts of pressure because of the unrealistic expectations of the public. One is expected to always do well, succeed and constantly be on top of your game and at times when these things are not attained as expected from the public you are faced with so many critics and This may cause depression. I don’t regard myself as a celebrity but being in the public eye has taught me to just put my mental health first by changing my mindset and sort of focusing on what’s more realistic than isolating myself from reality. To avoid dying from people’s critics you should learn to not live by their opinions.

It’s hard to be everybody’s hero all the time, and the people who look up to you don’t realize you are human. It’s amazing to be an influencer but you get sick and tired of always being on duty. I have so many supporters on social media and in life but not even a whole herd of my fans and supporters will be able to handle what I’m dealing with from the inside but still, I find no shame in telling my story.
