In an official statement, the NASCAM Board of Directors announced the appointment of Albert Nicanor as the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Namibian Society of Composers and Authors of Music.
Nicanor, known for his exceptional leadership and strategic acumen, will assume the role starting from August 1, 2023, ushering NASCAM into a new era of progress and success.
Bringing a wealth of experience and thought leadership to the table, Albert Nicanor is well-equipped to lead NASCAM, a prominent collective management society dedicated to supporting music authors, composers, and publishers. With his proven managerial expertise at New Era Investment Pty Ltd, prior roles as Deputy Director and Development Planner at the Ministry of Justice, Financial Technical Advisor at Lux Development, and Financial and Administration Manager at Roshkor Township Pty Ltd, Nicanor is primed to drive NASCAM’s growth and optimize its services.
Expressing their satisfaction, the Board of Directors warmly welcomed Nicanor as the new CEO and expressed their confidence in his ability to unlock NASCAM’s full potential. His appointment aligns with the decision made at the Annual General Meeting on June 24, 2023, where he was entrusted with overall responsibilities for strategic direction, financial performance, operational management, and long-term growth, as per the resolutions passed.
To ensure fairness and impartiality, the CEO recruitment and selection process was conducted independently by a committee of experts. Following the resignation of the former CEO in December 2022, the Board of Directors actively sought to keep the process unbiased. Initially comprising three esteemed individuals— Emilia Nghikembua, CEO of CRAN; Valentina Schaneck, Human Resource Manager of NIPDB; and Sam Shivute, CEO of NAMRA—the committee underwent a change when Shivute had to step down due to unforeseen scheduling conflicts. Jonas Ileka, Human Resource Manager of MeatCo, replaced him.
Out of the nineteen applications received, four candidates were shortlisted for interviews. Ultimately, after a rigorous evaluation process that included structured interviews, case study presentations, and psychometric tests, Albert Nicanor emerged as the top choice. The committee unanimously recommended him for the CEO position, a recommendation that was wholeheartedly accepted by the Board of Directors. Nicanor officially confirmed his acceptance of the offer in writing on June 28, 2023.
As the newly appointed CEO, Albert Nicanor will work closely with the Board, staff, and members of NASCAM to bring the organization’s vision to life. His extensive experience and strategic foresight are expected to fuel growth, foster innovation, and enhance services for the music creators and publishers represented by NASCAM.
