Well-known radio personality Olivia van Wyk has offered hope to women who are going
through Alopecia Areata after showing signs of recovery.
The vibrant and bubbly van Wyk shared her journey from being completely bald to regaining strands of hair on social media.
“Don’t give up, no matter how many times it knocks you down. Find strength in what makes you happy as well as in those who you love and be happy for them.”
“Choose to be a better person than the day before because if you are happy, so will your kids, and spouse and rest of your family,” said the former West Coast FM on air presenter.
It is commonly known that hair is the glory of a woman. It has been associated for centuries as a ‘measuring gauge’ for their beauty, identity and even worth.

Van Wyk, who is has also been a master of ceremonies at several prominent events in the
past, also said that women who have Alopecia should make peace with it as they find what
their calling in life.
“Make peace with yourself and find what makes you beautiful to you. Alopecia is a mind
thing. So it’s mind over matter,” she said.
After a journey of being starred and laughed at as well as being ridiculed, van Wyk took a
homemade remedy of Cannabis and hemp oil treatment and has since had her hair grown back little by little.
Many of the symptoms which she previously complained about like burning and itching has since stopped.
“Overall health has increased and most bald spots on my scalp have regrown and I’m so
happy. My hair is glowing and soft and my big curls are returning.”
“The hair is growing in length also and my skin irritation has vanished,” she said.
Before Will Smith slapped Chris Rock at this year’s Grammy Awards for making a mockery
out of his wife, Jada Pinkett Smith’s baldness, not little was known about Alopecia Areata.
Alopecia Areata is a common autoimmune disorder that often results in unpredictable hair loss. The condition affects millions of women around the world.
