Shoprite Group hosts Top Stars 2019 contest

The Shoprite Group held its annual Top Stars singing contest tonight at Hilton Hotel. The singing contest is only open to Shoprite Group employees only.

The contest was hosted officially by South African TV personality Katlego Maboe. The event was attended by members of the public and the Shoprite Group employees. The crowd was lively and reacted to the contestants from various singers who are Shoprite Group employees from Namibia, South Africa and even as far as Nigeria.

The event was held to ensure that some contestants who took part in the Namibian event would eventually earn enough points to make it to the grand finale of the Top Stars 2019 on 19 October 2019 at Cape Town, South Africa.

The winner of the Namibian event was Nigerian singer Brenda Pender. She amazed the judges and the crowd with her outstanding performance and deserved to walk away as a top singer at the contest.

Another artist who also did very well on stage was Boma Jackreece who hails form Lagos Nigeria.

Namibians Jonas and Nester who are employees from Shoprite Eenhana also had a crowd favourite original song titled Com Visit Shoprite that had the audience singing along because of its catchy and playful chorus. Other Shoprite Group employees who performed were Lira, Mastermind, The Golden Reag and Etango.

Hot and spicy had a stellar performance.
Victoria from Nigeria made a good impression.
Mastermind had a powerful and strong performance.
Etango brought traditioanal vibes to their performance set on stage.
Lira had a good performance.
The Golden Reag had matching outfits and their dances and singing was in sync.

Katlego Maboe rose to occasion as the MC and used his wit and charm to entertain the crowd and had a great control of the proceeding throughout the show. He also had a unforgettable performance that many would remember before he took over his duties as MC.

The 2018 grand finale Top Stars winner Gift Phiri was also judging at the competition and had a very unique and great performance on stage that left the crowd begging for some more.

The Top Stars initiative is a Human Resource project driven by the Shoprite Group of companies for all its employees across Africa. The contest creates fun in the workplace, assists with building self-esteem and fosters teamwork. Part of the experience comes with mentorship and performance coaching from music industry professionals to help prepare the contestants for their moment in the spotlight.
